Career Services works in conjunction with the State of Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation to provide one on one service for individuals with autism. Working with a Career Specialist, the individual will be evaluated through activities to uncover their talents and skills.
Listening to the individual’s goals, dreams, and interests and considering their abilities, talents, and skills, career specialists will engage in training, job shadows, and career exploration to narrow down employment choices.
The primary goal of ASI’s Career Services is to find and keep meaningful employment with competitive wages.
Specific supports and services provided through this program include:
Discovery Services provide a person-centered, individualized process to determine viable vocational options, develop employment goals, determine skills gaps, and identify potential workplaces. Successful Discovery is when the participant is engaged in planning their own future and participates fully in the process.
During this part of the process, the participant will do career exploration, job shadowing, and skills assessments. The process will be individualized for the participant and the career specialist will be focusing on what is best for them.
Job Readiness Training is provided to prepare each individual served for the world of work. Training is customized to match the anticipated environment and expectations of each individual’s future employer. Specific topics covered may include appropriate work behaviors, time management, interview skills, appropriate dress and grooming, communication skills, and basic computer skills.
On-The-Job Supports. Hourly on-the-job support services are provided to individuals placed in employment in order to stabilize the placement and enhance job retention. Such services include short-term job coaching for individuals who may not qualify for VR Supported Employment Services.
