DESCRIPTION:Public policy decisions made at the Indiana Statehouse have a direct impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families. Legislative decisions influence access to Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) and the quality of life across the lifespan for individuals with disabilities. During the legislative budget session of 2027\, Indiana legislators will be making decisions that affect services to disabled Hoosiers. \nThis interactive training will help participants understand how Indiana’s legislative process works\, identify opportunities for meaningful advocacy\, and develop the skills needed to effectively communicate with policymakers. Attendees will learn how to connect personal experiences to policy issues\, build relationships with legislators\, and take an active role in shaping policies that affect the disability community. \nWhether you are a self-advocate\, family member\, provider\, educator\, or community partner\, this training will provide practical tools to become a more confident and effective advocate. \nBios: \nDr. Macy Pohl serves as the Executive Director of Down Syndrome Indiana (DSI) and represents the organization as a founding member of the Indiana Disability Alliance. \nRachel Deaton serves as the Director of Training and Legislation for the Autism Society of Indiana and represents the organization as a founding member of the Indiana Disability Alliance \n  \nThe Indiana Disability Alliance is a statewide coalition of Indiana’s leading disability advocacy organizations that works together to advance policies promoting independence\, inclusion\, and opportunity for people with disabilities.
